Blog tour: Then He Kissed Me by Maria Geraci

Then He Kissed Me
Whispering Bay # 2
By: Maria Geraci
Releasing May 19, 2015
TKA Distribution

Lauren Donalan was once Whispering Bay’s golden girl—the rich, bubbly blonde cheerleader who married the high school football star. When her mediocre marriage falls apart, she returns home and starts a vintage clothing business, determined to prove she’s more than just a pretty face with a trust fund.

Nate Miller may have been a nerd in high school, but now he has a beautiful girlfriend and is set to take over Doc Morrison’s medical practice. Still, the good folks of Whispering Bay find his no-nonsense approach more than a little unsettling, leaving his future in town a great big question mark. And things go even further downhill when his well-intentioned marriage proposal goes awry.

Lauren doesn’t need a man to complete her, yet when she finds herself set up on a date with Nate, she can’t help but notice how sexy and confident he is. In fact, every time the former introvert kisses her, she sees fireworks. But, only a big love will make Lauren change her mind about commitment. As Nate attempts to win Lauren over, a real estate co-op threatens Lauren’s business—and Nate’s ex still has a thing or two to say about their previous relationship. Now Lauren has to decide to go big or go home, in business, as well as in love.

Maria Geraci writes contemporary romance and women’s fiction with a happy ending. The Portland Book Review called her novel, The Boyfriend of the Month Club, “immensely sexy, immensely satisfying and humorous.” Her fourth novel, A Girl Like You, was nominated for Romance Writers of America’s prestigious RITA ® award. She lives in north Florida with her family, which includes a very needy chihuahua, an extremely needy dachshund and a not-so-needy cat (guess which one she likes best?). You can reach at her www.mariageraci.com.

Hello Maria! Welcome to Roberta’s Dreamworld and thank you for your time. First of all, tell us something about yourself, both as a writer and as a person.

Hi! Thanks for having me. Let’s see, I live in north Florida with my family, and besides writing romance, I also work part-time as a labor and delivery nurse. As a writer, I like to write by the seat of my pants, which is pretty much the same way the rest of my life goes. I wish I was organized, but I’m not. I make the same New Year’s resolution every year. One day, it will stick!

How/when did you realize you wanted to become a writer?

I’ve always been a big reader, but I didn’t start writing until 13 years ago. My husband left for a 3 week business trip and when he asked me what I was going to do while he was gone, I answered, “Clean out all the closets!” He seemed very pleased by my answer. Unfortunately (for the closets), on the drive home from the airport I had an epiphany. I decided instead of cleaning out closets, to try to write a book instead.

Let’s speak about “THEN HE KISSED ME”. We’ve read the synopsis but can you tell us a little more about what the book is about?

It’s about two people who never thought they would be right for one another, until they share a kiss. Then of course, everything changes!

How did you come up with the idea and how did you create the characters?

This is a second book in a series, so the characters spun off from the characters in my first book. My heroine, Lauren, is actually the ex-wife of the hero of THAT THING YOU DO. I really loved writing Lauren in the first book and I knew I would have to give her a really awesome hero. Writing Nate’s character is probably the most fun I’ve ever had writing. He is totally awesome, and I don’t mind admitting that I’m a little in love with him (okay, a lot in love with him!).

If you should describe your books in three words, what would you pick?

Funny, sexy, heart-warming.

Do you have any favorite authors and did they influence your choice of the genre?

I love Jennifer Crusie, Madeline Hunter, Mary Kay Andrews, Sophie Kinsella and so many more. The list goes on! I don’t think they influenced my choice of genre, rather, I write in the genre that I most like to read, contemporary romance with a hint of chick lit thrown in.

What else do you enjoy doing, when you’re not writing?

I love going to the beach, eating out, watching bad reality tv, and of course, reading.

As a writer do you get support from your family and friends?

Definitely. I could never do this without them. Writing is hard work, plus it’s hard on the ego. You have to have your “people” behind you 100%.

What are your dreams and plans for your future as a writer?

My plans are simple. Keep writing and make each book better than the one before it. As for my dreams, I’d say I’m like most writers. I’d like to hit the New York Times bestseller list and buy my own private island (just kidding about the island).

Would you like to say something to the readers to encourage them to read your books?

Oh, this is a hard one, because of course, I think my books are brilliant and that everyone should read them. And if it means anything, my mother thinks so too!

When Lauren glanced back at the screen, the ending credits were rolling.
Nate sat up and stretched his arms over his head.

“What did you think of it?” she asked. Please tell me you like it. It sounded dumb, but she just didn’t think she could be friends with anyone who didn’t get It’s a Wonderful Life.

“It was…good,” he said, and she instantly felt herself relax. If Nate Miller didn’t like the movie, he would tell her so. It was just the way he was wired. “Have you ever wondered what it would be like if you hadn’t been born?” he asked.

She stared at him. “Are you kidding? That’s my favorite game. Okay, here goes: If I hadn’t been born then my mother wouldn’t have anyone to boss around. But more importantly, then Henry wouldn’t have been born, and that would be the world’s greatest tragedy.”

“Agreed.”

She giggled.

“What’s so funny?”

“It’s…just the way you do these one word sentences.” She imitated his deep voice. “Agreed. And then there’s my personal favorite. Absolutely.

He raised a brow. “Why waste words when one will do perfectly fine?”

Agreed.”

“Smart ass,” he said.

They both reached for the last slice of pizza and laughed. She nudged it his way. “Go for it.”

“Okay, I think I will this time.” This time? It occurred to her that he was referring to their dinner at The Harbor House, when he’d given up the last scallop to her. She didn’t know why, but she was ridiculously pleased that he’d remembered.

“Do you want any more kids?” he asked casually, but she got the feeling he was deeply interested in her response.

“I would love to have more, but with the right person this time.”

“The right person?”

Lauren sighed. “Tom wasn’t in love with me when we got married.” Nate looked incredulous. So she went on to explain. “Most people in town know we got married because I was pregnant. I mean, you can’t really hide something like that in Whispering Bay. But the story’s a little more complicated than that.”

She went on to tell him how she had unprotected sex with Tom on the night of the senior awards banquet and how she broke up with him the next day, only to discover a couple of months later that she was pregnant. Tom had already moved on to another relationship with his current fiancĂ©, Allie. But he broke up with Allie to “do the right thing” and marry Lauren.

“When I found out I was pregnant I was so scared. I hid it from Momma for as long as I could, but then I had to eventually tell my parents. It was awful. I’ll never forget the look of disappointment on my father’s face.”

“I’m sure he was just worried about you.”

She nodded. “I know, but I’m an only child and it’s hard, having all this pressure to be perfect all the time. I guess the hardest thing was knowing that I would never live up to my potential.”

He looked at her. “Is that what you think?”

“I don’t know. I love Henry and I wouldn’t change anything that happened for the world, but having him so young did limit my choices.” She shrugged, embarrassed that she’d told him so much. She’d never admitted that to anyone. Not even to Tom. “So, yeah, I’d like to have more kids, but if I ever get married again, it will be because I’m crazy in love with someone who’s crazy in love with me. And only me.” She cleared her throat. “What about you? Do you want kids?”

“Definitely. At least a couple.”

She tried to think of how to broach the subject of Jessica, but there was really no delicate way, so she forged ahead. “Did you and Jessica talk about it?”

“She wasn’t sure if she wanted any. I thought it was because she was still young and had just finished law school. But maybe that had been delusional thinking on my part.”

“Have you…been in touch with her since Valentine’s Day?”

“No, and I don’t intend to.”

“No regrets or second thoughts?”

“Absolutely none.”

She wished she could believe him. Could he really turn his feelings off so easily? Lauren didn’t know if that was a good thing, or a potentially bad thing (for her).

“Okay, your turn,” she said. “What would the world be like if you’d never been born?”

“Let’s see. My mom would still have Lanie, and Doc would have someone else working with him. But other than that…” He shrugged, like he couldn’t think of anything else.

“But what about this precious baby here?” Lauren held a sleepy Hector up in her arms. “Who would have taken him in?”

“I’m sure some other chump would have come up to the plate.”

She smiled, then her smile faded. Just two months ago he’d admitted that in her eyes, he was a bad risk. And he was right. He could hurt her. She could totally fall for Nate Miller and he could turn around and break her heart. But she couldn’t seem to help herself. Ask him, Lauren, I’ll bet he says yes.

“But if you hadn’t been born, who would be my partner for couples Bunco?”

He stilled. “Couples Bunco?”

“Two weeks from tonight. The first Friday in May. Dress is cocktail casual, or so I’ve been told. It’ll be my first time going and I find myself in need of a date, although, we wouldn’t have to consider it a date.” She paused long enough to catch her breath. “So, what do you say? Are you game?”

“Absolutely.”

She fought back her grin. “That’s exactly what I hoped you’d say.”

Blog tour: Sea Glass Sunrise by Donna Kauffman

Sea Glass Sunrise
The Brides of Blueberry Cove # 1
By: Donna Kauffman
Releasing May 26, 2015
Zebra

In seaside Blueberry Cove, Maine, friends are just another word for family, and big-city politics take a backseat to local pride. But the real treasure on these shores is always love…

When D.C. lawyer Hannah McCrae heads home for her brother’s wedding, she’s dragging a lot of baggage along with her—and she doesn’t mean suitcases. Betrayed personally, and humiliated professionally, the last thing she wants is a new man. That’s fine with square-jawed, rugged contractor Calder Blue. He and Hannah may be wildly attracted to one another, but all he wants is to build the town’s hotly contested new yacht club and mend a centuries-old family feud. Yet thanks to resentments old and new, day after day the pair wind up tangled in each other’s business—and maybe soon in each other’s arms.

Every bride needs something “blue”…

USA Today bestselling author of the Cupcake Club Romance series, Donna Kauffman has seen her books reviewed in venues ranging from Kirkus Reviews and Library Journal to Entertainment Weekly and Cosmopolitan. She lives just outside of DC in the lovely Virginia countryside, where she is presently trying to makeover her newly empty nest into something that doesn’t have to accommodate piles of sports equipment falling out of her coat closet (okay, out of every closet...and under every bed....), size 13 cleats and sweaty uniforms cluttering her foyer (and stairwell, and laundry room, and...), and a kitchen that should have come with a traffic light. And a pantry monitor. (Anyone with a clever idea on how to repurpose lacrosse sticks into matching reading lamps, she’s all ears!) When she’s not stripping paint, varnishing an old auction house find, or trying to avoid bodily injury with her latest power tool purchase, she loves to hear from readers!

Blog tour: Wedding Bells in Christmas by Debbie Mason

Wedding Bells in Christmas
Christmas, Colorado # 4
By: Debbie Mason
Releasing May 26th, 2015
Forever

To have and to hold from this day forward

Wedding bells are ringing in the charming town of Christmas, but not for Vivian Westfield. She's just had her heart trampled under the cowboy boots of Chance McBride and lost her dream job at a big-city newspaper. But when she returns for a wedding, she stumbles on a story that could resurrect her career. First, though, she'll have to deal with the handsome man standing in her way . . . and a still-burning flame that's too hot to ignore.

Chance recognizes trouble when he sees it. He just didn't expect to find it in the first-class cabin on the flight home for his father's wedding. Yet there she is, as gorgeous as ever. Vivi dared Chance to want things he knew he could never have. It's why he left her. But Christmas's meddling matchmakers have them firmly in their sights. So if they want to survive the next week, they'll have to play the part of an adoring couple-an irresistible charade that may give them a second chance at the real thing . . .

Debbie Mason is the bestselling author of the Christmas, Colorado series. Her books have been praised for their "likable characters, clever dialogue and juicy plots" (RT Book Reviews). She also writes historical paranormals as Debbie Mazzuca. Her MacLeod series has received several nominations for best paranormal as well as a Holt Medallion Award of Merit. When she isn't writing or reading, Debbie enjoys spending time with her very own real-life hero, their four wonderful children, an adorable grandbaby, and a yappy Yorkie named Bella.

A beautiful and intense story, with just the right amount of suspense.

This was my first book from the author, and the first book in the series, so I didn’t know what to expect, or if I’d be able to fully enjoy the book without having read the previous ones. It turns out that I did enjoy the book very much and now I’m really curious to read the other books and find out the other characters’ stories.

I’ve developed an obsession for small town romance, especially if it’s set in the West and involves cowboys. I immediately got hooked and connected with Vivi in the first scene, and I was sure I was going to love the book. She’s a great character, a stubborn, career-oriented woman who’s determined to get her precious job at a New York newspaper back, after she was temporarily moved from an important column to a “Dear Vivi” advice column. Not exactly the most empathetic person on earth, Vivi isn’t the right person for the job and needs a juicy story that could get her back into her editor’s graces. But she has to put her plans on hold since she’s leaving NY to attend a wedding in Christmas, Colorado, where her friends are now living, happily married to two local guys. She’s not exactly happy about this trip, though, because the groom is actually the father of the man who broke her heart by walking out of her life. The man Vivi isn’t ready to face again yet.

When she gets on the plane (hilarious scene here, by the way) she finds out much to her chagrin that she’s sitting right next to him – and not exactly because of a lucky (or unlucky?) coincidence.
Chance McBride is from Christmas, too but he’s been working for a security company and hasn’t been home in five years, since his wife (and the baby she was carrying) died in a tragic accident – an accident he still blames himself for. Sitting next to him wasn’t Vivi’s plan, but they both soon realize that Chance’s aunt, Nell the matchmaker, is behind all this, having her mind set on getting them together. So, before the plane lands, Chance comes up with a plan: they’ll have to pretend they’re a couple, so his aunt will leave them alone until the wedding’s over. Afterwards, they will go their separate ways and forget all about it.

It seems like an easy-peasy plan, right? Too bad Vivi’s never gotten over him and, apparently, neither has Chance. But she’s determined to get her job back and keep her heart intact, and he’s still grieving over his wife and baby’s death, so he can’t give Vivi the love she deserves. This major dilemma will be the cause of most of the trouble in the story, since it will prevent them from ever getting too close or opening up with each other. They’re both in love and both afraid to show it, as well as scared of getting hurt or hurting the other. Expect a bumpy ride toward the HEA!

I truly loved this book, and I’m very happy to say it is a clean romance! Yep, all scenes are fade to black and there’s not a single graphic scene in the book but, oh my, the chemistry between them is so strong you won’t need the steamy scenes to feel it. I really liked the way the author managed to keep the reader focused on their attraction without the need for graphic scenes or long descriptions. (Which kind of proves my point that, if the author’s writing is good, she doesn’t need to add unnecessary sex scenes to write a good book - sorry for the prudish comment LOL).

I enjoyed very much all the bickering and banter between the hero and heroine; I particularly loved Vivi’s clumsiness around Princess, Chance’s wife’s Yorkie, who was responsible for some hilarious scenes in the book. Vivi was truly entertaining and she made me laugh out loud. She’s sassy, stubborn and at the same time she’s comical without meaning to be. A city girl through and through, she’s having a hard time adjusting to the country life (especially with scary creatures coming at her from all sides – namely mice, bats and the likes…) so it was fun reading how she managed to adapt.

Chance is a handsome hero, not only in the physical sense. He’s a bit alpha, but in a way that made me love him (not a fan of alpha heroes): he’s protective and caring, loyal and responsible, and can even be super funny. The way he still hurts because of the love of his life’s death really broke my heart and for most of the book made me fear he’d never manage to get his happy ending. I rooted for him from chapter one and even though at times I wanted to shake him and tell him to make a move and tell Vivi how he felt, I liked that the path to their happy ending wasn’t an easy one, that they had to overcome some major obstacles on their way.

I wasn’t expecting the suspense, but I was glad about it. It made the story even more interesting, and it kept me glued to the pages until the end. There are some serious edge-of-the-seat scenes.

I loved the side characters, all of them, and I can’t wait to read the previous books. I’m really glad I discovered this series, and if you’re looking for a romantic, funny, a little suspensful and small town romance, then this book is the right pick.

Blog tour: Home Sweet Home by Candis Terry

Home Sweet Home
A Sweet, Texas Novella
By: Candis Terry
Releasing May 19th, 2015
(Re-Issue with Additional Content)
Avon Impulse

Before Candis Terry’s wild Wilder brothers met their matches, a soldier gets a homecoming in Sweet, Texas.

HE’S GIVEN UP…
Army Ranger, Lieutenant Aiden Marshall, fought in some of the most hellish corners on earth and survived. Those closest to him, did not. When he returns home to Sweet, Texas, he believes he’s broken and has lost everything-including his soul. The only fair thing he can do is tell the woman who’s patiently waited for him to come home-to move on with her life-without him.

BUT SHE NEVER WILL
Sassy waitress Paige Walker has no intention of walking away from the man of her dreams. He gave his all for his country and served with honor. Now it’s time to pull him from the darkness and give him hope. With a heap of love, the help of the entire town, and a tail-wagging companion, Paige makes sure her hero knows there’s no place like home sweet home.

Candis Terry was born and raised near the sunny beaches of Southern California and now makes her home on an Idaho farm. She’s experienced life in such diverse ways as working in a Hollywood recording studio to chasing down wayward steers. Only one thing has remained the same: her passion for writing stories about relationships, the push and pull in the search for love, and the security one finds in their own happily ever after.

Another beautiful novella in the Sweet, Texas series by Candis Terry, for lovers of small town romance and military heroes.

I have only read one other book in this series, and I definitely need to find a little time to read all the other books, because I really love this little town called Sweet. Even though this book has been published later, it is actually set way before all the other books so I didn’t have trouble following the story or getting hooked.

It is a beautiful romance between two childhood sweethearts who’ve been separated in the last few years because of the hero joining the army after 9/11. The story starts with the hero coming home, and I immediately loved Aiden. He’s a broken man, just like every soldier coming home after having seen his best friends die, and he’s on a mission of saying goodbye to the love of his life because he thinks she deserves more than the shell of the man who’s come home from the Middle East.

The heroine, Paige is fantastic. She’s not exactly your typical damsel in distress; from the very first minute she sees Aiden, she makes it her mission to win him back, now that he’s home for good. She’s been waiting for him for a long time, and she’s determined to not let his insecurities (and stubbornness) get in the way. She wants her man, and she’s gonna get him: easy peasy! :)

I really liked the connection between them, the way they both have been faithful to each other even when he was thousands of miles away. All through the book, you feel the love burning between them even when Aiden tries to push Paige away, to let her get on with her life. I loved that she didn’t get discouraged and fought for him, and I especially loved what she did (helped by the whole town) – I can’t say what this is, as it would give away the ending and spoil it all, but I can say it was very sweet and extremely touching.

Despite the name of the town, expect some steam, ‘cause when the two get together sparks fly!

If you’re looking for a quick read filled with love, you should pick up this book.

“When did you get home? Why didn’t your brother tell me? How long will you be home? Do you want something to eat? Of course you do. Dumb question. Scratch that.”

Aiden couldn’t help but smile as Paige fired off a volley of questions, then finished them off with a random thought.

Just like old times.

She’d always been that girl.

The one who had a million things going on all at once and tried to keep them all in order inside her head. At times, she came off a bit scrambled even though, for the most part, she had it more together than anyone he’d ever met. Aiden knew she saw every day as a gift. She saw life as something priceless that should be hit at full speed and explored twenty-four hours a day.

When they’d been together, he’d managed to keep her in bed for several of those hours a day just to show her that a lot could be accomplished in a prone position too. But even then, between making love, she’d come up with a list of half a dozen things she wanted to do that day, next week, or a year down the road. They’d done a hell of a lot of exploring in those days, and even if he hadn’t been able to keep up with her eagerness on the calendar, he managed to keep her enthusiasm busy in other ways.

“A few days ago,” he said, answering her first question, then followed up with the rest. “Ben didn’t tell you because he didn’t know. And yes, I’d love a Diablo burger, a double order of sweet-potato fries, and a marshmallow Snickers milk shake.”

It didn’t take a rocket scientist to know immediately that she was hurt because he’d taken so long to come see her. By rights, she should have been first on his list. And she would have been, but he had obligations to visit Bobby’s and Billy’s folks. And after those visits, he had barely been able to look at himself in the mirror.

The wounded look in her eye disappeared, and her smile reappeared. Apparently, she realized too why he hadn’t come to see her first.

“Awww. Your favorite foods.” She shifted her weight from one sexy hip to the other. “I’ll bet you’ve been craving those for a long time.”

He’d been craving her too, but that kind of thinking had to stop.

“Pretty much since I boarded the plane for Afghanistan and left American soil.” Funny how the moment you knew you couldn’t have something, you wanted it even more.

“Well, the wait is over. You sit right there, and I’ll have Bud put your order on a rail.” Her tennis shoes squeaked as she turned and rushed off into the kitchen.

With all day in front of him and nothing to do, Aiden could watch her through the order window, excitedly gesturing with her hands while she spoke with Bud. Still, he couldn’t help wonder out loud … “A rail?”

The old man with the bald head next to him nodded and grinned. “She’s puttin’ the hurry up on it for you.”

“Oh.”

Guilt wrapped around Aiden’s throat and gave a hard squeeze. The faster Paige moved, the sooner he’d have to deliver the news. She looked so damned happy to see him, he hated to burst her bubble. Hated to hurt her in any way. But it had to be done. No matter how badly he might think he wanted it to be otherwise.

“For a man who’s got a pretty woman like that scurrying around to make time to be with him, you sure got a grim look on your puss.”

The man sitting next to him, Chester Banks, was well into his eighties. He’d had more ex-wives than Disneyland had rides. Over the years, his nose had grown, and his eyes had sunk. He probably weighed all of a hundred pounds soaking wet, was bowlegged, and wore his Wranglers so starched, his arthritic knees could barely bend. But Chester had no qualms whatsoever about chasing the ladies who were at least six decades younger.

“Probably matches what’s inside my head,” Aiden verified.

“Oh?” A scraggly gray brow lifted, and a smile broke across Chester’s wrinkled lips. “So you’re saying the lovely Paige is up for grabs?”

A note from Candis about why she’s donating book sales to charity.

"The inspiration for HOME SWEET HOME came from an article I’d read about a soldier who been forced to leave the pup he’d rescued in Afghanistan because it wasn’t allowed to bring the animal back to the U.S. In writing the story I realized that rescue animals are a huge part of the romances I write. Since I’m prone to rescue four-legged friends in my personal life I thought that maybe I could help in a bigger way. When I started looking into rescue centers I was overwhelmed by not only the number of animals in need but the generosity of the volunteers who often nurse these animals back to health so they can be adopted. The love and loyalty of an animal is unconditional and I’d like to see them have the opportunity to be loved right back. I know I can’t help them all, but I hope these donations will help as many as possible."
